Scope Instant Review: Les Misérables

The latest entry in The Scope’s Winter Film Binge nearly killed Jared and Shane with over two hours of constant singing. Yes, we’re talking about the cinematic adaptation of a bunch of french dudes’ Les Misérables. Jackman, Crowe, and Hathaway singtalk their way through the trials and tribulations of early 19th century France. What that means is a lot of revolution, creepy prostitutes, and crawling through fecal rivers. Perfect subject matter for a Christmas day release! (At least no one from the cast of Girlfriends had a cameo in the film.)

Download this instant review and find out if Jared and Shane walked out of the theater feeling mighty or miserable. (Hint: it’s miserable. But that’s what makes it fun, everyone!)

The Scope Les Misérables review would never clap after someone finishes a song in a movie. They can’t hear you, people.

Episode 135: 2012 Year In Review

2013 is almost upon us. The Mayans were wrong (gasp!) and The Scope pushes on for one last show in the year of 2012. That can mean only one thing: The Scope’s World Famous Year In Review episode!

Yes, yes, yes, Jared, Adam, and even Shane take a few minutes before the ball drops to tell the world what they think of the best TV, movies, music, and other stuff of the past 365 days. It’s an emotional look back at the year of terrific pop culture. Hopefully no awkward Culture Club soundbites will be played.

While a thorough wrap-up of the year’s best would be enough for anyone, they guys also decide to take on a gigantic challenge for the year ahead of them. Yes, it’s pop-culture related. Yes, it’s nostalgically-focused. And yes, it’ll be done fully-clothed 84.3% of the time. But you’ll have to listen to find out what these jokers have planned! It’s big, people.

Finally, we here at The Scope wish all our listeners a Happy New Year. Let’s make 2013 a joyous, peaceful, and safe one, shall we?

The Scope episode 135 secretly knows 2013 will still be all about Gangnam Style. That’s a fad that will never, ever be defeated.

Scope Instant Review: Warm Bodies

We’re way ahead of the curve on this one as we were treated to an early screening of the forthcoming zombie rom-com Warm Bodies. This film doesn’t release until February, 1 2013, but our opinion is bound by no such schedule. Sitting in for Adam and Shane is Carrie, sometime Scope guest and full-time Scope wife — not to say she’s married to the entirety of The Scope or that marriage to Shane occupies all her time… oh, forget it. Just listen!

The Scope Warm Bodies review would definitely rub its fluids on your face before leading you through the zombie hordes to safety.

Scope Instant Review: Jack Reacher

Much like Tom Cruise, The Scope is back in theaters (like Tom Cruise, just like we said earlier in the sentence) with another review for the Winter Film Binge. This time around, it’s the aforementioned Cruise’s latest action/thriller, Jack Reacher. Crazy couch-jumping/Oprah-electrocuting Tom plays a super (former) military detective trying to solve a most vicious crime. And the lesson learned from this film is simple: two dudes attacking a guy in a bathtub will only lead to a Three Stooges scene. But with slightly more forced headbutts.

So what did Jared and Shane think of this film, exactly? You’ll have to download this podcast and find out, homeys.

The Scope Jack Reacher review wouldn’t chew off fingers for anybody.

Episode 134: 2012 Holiday Special (48 Frames/Second Edition)

Ho ho ho! Boy, oh, boy, The Scope loves the holiday season! It’s nothing but frankincense, myrrh, and mistletoe up in here. And, in honor of this joyous time of year, Jared, Adam, and Shane take a few minutes to talk about some of the geekiest gifts they’ve ever received.

But wait, there’s more! Because The Scope LOVES trivia, Adam and Jared compete in a nail-biting edition of Yuletime Trivia Deathmatch! Two geeks enter, two geeks leave (but one of them is a bit sad for losing.)

And, as a special bonus, your Scope hosts get all Middle Earth on Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit. Tune in and find out if they found the movie to be precious or not! Spoiler Alert: they talk a lot about this one. It’s not to be missed!

Finally, we all here at The Scope wish everyone a Happy Holidays! Drink some ‘nog for us, bitches!

The Scope episode 134 hopes Jared’s Kidz will ride the giant birdies all the way to the mountain.

Episode 133: Catching Up With The Curvaceous Porterhouse

On this episode of The Scope, Jared, Shane, (and mostly) Adam, take a look back at some recent events in their lives. What does this mean to you guys, the loyal Scope listeners? It means tales of Black Thursday/Friday, brown shoe polish kits, colonoscopy prep, and some serious video game discussion. There was so much going on that your Scope hosts had to leave stuff for future shows. Be still your hearts.

The guys also look a quick look back at the Autumn Film Blast (in case you missed all of the special edition podcasts pelting you over the past few months.) Newsflash: they saw some great films and not-so-great films. Crazy, right?

So get ready, Scope faithful. Because different orange and blue always equal purple, at least in Adam’s broken eyes. Also, this is a good show. So listen, won’t you?

The Scope episode 133 is all about doing it Dino Style.

Scope Instant Review: Hitchcock

Good evening, Scope Faithful. Today we bring you another installment in the wildly-popular Autumn Film Blast series. The film going under the Scope microscope is Hitchcock, which, sadly, has nothing to do with either Will Smith movie with “hitch” in the title. Maybe next time, Scopers.

Instead, some know-it-all producer thought people might want to see a picture about one of the most famous filmmakers of all time. And, while that producer was at it, he’d throw in some bits about the making of one of the most notable horror pictures of all time. Basically, there’s a lot of “of all time” in this review. Luckily, Jared and Shane are tough enough to make sure it happens. So buckle up for a short (but sweet) Scope Special Edition.

The Scope Hitchcock review has a Groupon for the Bates Motel. Perfect for a romantic night away from the kids, right? Right?

Scope Special Edition: Autumn Film Blast

Hey, Scope Faithful. Your podcasting buddies are at it again. Seeing movies and reviewing them and stuff. Because you are loved, Shane and Jared (but mostly Jared) put together a special mini-edition of The Scope full of fall film reviews. The guys have a lot to say about the latest Oscar bait from Ben Affleck, Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, and Steven Spielberg. What is this? 1999 or something?

So stick around, listen to some podcasting, and get the final word on what’s turning out to be a pretty good movie season. If you ignore Red Dawn. (And you should, Scopers. You should.)

The Scope Special Edition: Autumn Film Blast will now end the sentence with the word, Gigli.

Episode 132: McMahon, McGrits, and McStar Wars

After a semi-long break, Jared, Adam, and Shane return to cover a couple of topics. One was some election of some sort, the other was MORE STAR WARS MOVIES!!! We’ll let you judge which one is more important to the future of our great country.

If that wasn’t enough (and trust us, there’s never enough Scope) the guys also talk up another instant review. This time it’s Disney’s Non-Pixar computer animated film, Wreck-It Ralph. Spoiler Alert: you will not find any characters from the classic coin-op game, Double Dragon. Feel free to light the torches and storm the castle at your earliest convenience.

The Scope episode 132 is still working on the judging panel for The Southern Voice. Sorry NBC, the idea is ours.
