Episode 181: Rappin’ with Nerd Rage Toys

In this edition of The Scope, Jared and Shane (Adam is too busy with Grindr to show up) talk to entrepreneur and vintage toy expert Jeno about his very cool business, Nerd Rage Toys. The guys get into deep conversation about psychological impact of commercialism on children, how toys may or may not subliminally encourage kids to accept and act out violence, and how toys have limited imagination.

Yeah, right. Mostly we talk about how cool G.I.Joe, Transformers, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are.

If that weren’t enough, The Scope put Jeno and all of his Nerd Rage through a toy-focused Nerd Degree super quiz. Make sure you listen all the way through to see how he did!

The Scope episode 181 wonders how much the Taliban really likes The Bee Gees.

Under The Scope | Movie Review: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

We return to the start of the beginning of the buildup to the launch of the rise of the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Simian Flu has wiped out most of the human race. Meanwhile, apes have multiplied and established their own civilization. Film budgets have also multiplied; those performance capture rigs aren’t cheap. Ultimately, humans and apes will clash, and someone’s gonna ride a horse holding two machine guns. No, the horse isn’t holding machines guns, the ape is holding machine guns. Why? Because he’s smart. If you were smart, you’d double fist hardware, too. Where was I? Oh right…

The Scope Dawn of the Planet of the Apes review will remember to print out our most important photos before the power goes out for good.

Another episode of The Scope, another Adam absence. What are Jared and Shane to do? How about only talking about EVERY important TV show hitting the airways this summer?

Done.

Yes, your Scope hosts get into everything summer television-related. You’re guaranteed talk about many upcoming shows (like The Leftovers) and shows that ended in the beginning of summer (like Game of Thrones and Fargo.) And, if you’re lucky, you might bear witness to the guys talkin’ smack about Under The Dome.

So get out our TV Guide and play along. The Scope 2014 Summer TV Preview is so in your face.

The Scope episode 180 eats a lot of Kashi on the air and it doesn’t care one bit.

Episode 179: Incorrect Cheese Curds

The good news: your Scope show is back! The bad (or better, depending on your perspective) news: Adam is out on assignment. That means Jared and Shane have to hold down the fort, filling in for all the stuff Adam usually does. Believe it or not, it’s more than sighing loudly and occasionally saying something somewhat sarcastic.

This episode is all about News! News! News! So it’s best if you get to digesting it now to make sure everything is as fresh and current as possible! Also, you might get a little vamping with Sia…and that’s always a good thing.

The Scope episode 179 wants a Putin plunger and it wants it now.

Under The Scope | Movie Review: Transformers: Age of Extinction

Let’s get this out of the way: Transformers: Age of Extinction is bad. Really bad. Worse than Go-Bots cartoon bad. And your Scope hosts, Jared and Shane, could not hide that disgust in their latest Scope summer movie review.

There’s nothing good in Michael Bay’s latest endeavor. Whether you talk about the acting, the plot, the product placement, the treatment of women, the treatment of minorities, the lack of Dinobots, or the loud, bombastic special effects…it’s all damaging to your soul.

So do yourself a favor. Skip the latest Transformers film and instead check out what The Scope has to say about it. You’ll save yourself two hours of your life and you’ll get to here Jared and Shane crackle with indignity like never before. It’s glorious. We promise.

The Scope Transformers: Age of Extinction movie review is not sponsored by the following products: Red Bull energy drink, Beats Pill Speaker, Armani Exchange, My Little Pony, Victoria’s Secret, GM, Lamborghini, Bugatti, some weird Chinese milk drink box, and most of all, Budweiser.

Episode 178: The Boogie Monster and Summer Music of 1984 (Part 2)

Yes, it’s part two of the Summer Music of 1984 spectacular! Yes, Ron “BoogieMonster” Gerber, host of Crap From the Past, is back to tell you all about it. Yes, we talk about obsolete audio containment formats. Yes, we also get the final word on the quality of that summer of music from Ron. And yes, Adam would rather be talking about Linkin Park.

Sounds like a pretty damn good show, right? Well, it is. So download it. Or watch it. Or stream it. But please, just ingest it. And tell all your friends and family about it, too.

Scoot!

The Scope episode 178 wants to recast Professor X with the lovably-gruff Sean Connery.

Episode 177: The Boogie Monster and Summer Music of 1984 (Part 1)

In the the first of a special two part episode, The Scope welcomes back Ron Gerber, the professor of pop music and curator of the excellent radio program, Crap From the Past, to discuss the summer music of 1984. But, in true Scope fashion, the guys spend a good portion of part one talking about music stuff that happened *before* 1984.

Classic Scope.

That being said, this is still one interview you won’t want to miss. You’ll learn more about Michael Jackson, MTV, and growing up in the 80s than you can imagine.

So tell us, why are you reading this and not listening to 177?

The Scope episode 177 knows a bit about Kelly Pickler and isn’t afraid to wait two years to tell you about it.
