Instant Movie Review: Ender’s Game

The Fall Film Flam continues! This time, the boys are tackling the big screen adaptation of Orson (not Mork from Ork’s supervisor) Scott Card’s sci-fi novel, Ender’s Game. This film is all about recruiting genius children in order to train them as a space army and Earth’s best hope to defeat the alien Formics. Will Jared (read book) and Shane (can’t read) come away with different opinions? Tune in to find out.

The Scope Ender’s Game review wants to win this battle and all future battles.

Instant Movie Review: About Time

The Scope Fall Film Flam is back. And this time, Jared, Shane, and Carrie head across the pond for a little British film (from the maker of Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, and Love Actually) called About Time.

Believe it or not, it’s got a sci-fi hook (Dr. Who is nowhere in the vicinity, alas)…

<interrupting transmission>
Jared here. It’s “Doctor Who”, never “Dr. Who”, Shane. And, technically, that’s the show’s title, not the characters name. The character is called “The Doctor”. Just setting the record straight that at least one of your Scope hosts knows a bit about Who — although I wouldn’t consider myself a Whovian. What’s the diminutive of Whovian? Whovianito? Yes, I’m an Whovianito. Right, we’ve settled that. Carry on…
<returning to regular broadcast>

…and a bit of decent acting. But will it have enough to pass the Scope quality test? Well, why don’t you get to watching and/or downloading this review and find out? You owe it to yourself…and the Queen Mother. Cheerio, y’all.

The Scope About Time instant review depends on the kindness of strangers to get into the movie.

Instant Movie Review: Escape Plan

You asked for it (no you didn’t), so you get it (even though you didn’t want it)! It’s the latest on-screen teaming of Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. These 80s champions of musclebound, explosive action cinema have aged, but they might still have enough charisma to win over a jaded 21st-century audience in Escape Plan. Stallone is a master at escaping prisons, and Awnuld is the man inside who becomes an unlikely partner in the prison break of a lifetime.

The Scope Escape Plan review knows you’re just waiting for Schwarzenegger to shoot the bad guys in slow motion.

Instant Movie Review: The Fifth Estate

Awards season is heating up, and one film with some buzz — at least for actor Benedict Cumberbatch as Julian Assange — is The Fifth Estate. Directed by Bill Condon, this film examines the genesis of Wikileaks. Jared rolls solo in tackling this review for the Fall Film Flam. Can he manage? We’ll release all the facts and let you make an informed decision.

The Scope The Fifth Estate knows now you should probably google what the first through third estates are.

Instant Movie Review: Machete Kills

Machete returns in Machete Kills! Danny Trejo is back to scowl his way through another Robert Rodriguez film as the titular unstoppable hero, and Jared and Shane were there to witness the carnage. Machete is joined by a bunch of Rodriguez regulars in an adventure that is sure to slice its way through the bounds of credibility. Just watch out for helicopter blades.

The Scope Machete Kills review will definitely tweet — unlike Machete.

Instant Movie Review: Captain Phillips

The Fall Film Flam rolls on with a lovable family tale of high-seas piracy, Captain Phillips. Tom Hanks tackles the titular role and a New Hampshire accent in this ripped-from-the-headlines true story directed by Paul Greengrass. Will Captain Phillips survive? Spoiler alert: he does. Told you it was true story.

The Scope Captain Phillips review always tells its crew to enjoy their coffee.

Instant Movie Review: Gravity

You want more Scope Fall Film Flam? You get more Scope Fall Film Flam.

This time around, Jared and Shane take in a sneak preview of a movie that’s getting a lot of Oscar buzz. The film is Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. These two Hollywood types play astronauts desperately trying to get back to earth after some space junk destroys their shuttle. It’s intense, dramatic, and full of that Dr. Ross Charm™.

If you are wondering what your Scope hosts think of this 3D Sci-Fi spectacular, make sure you listen AND watch this review. Really, the only proper way to enjoy anything Scope-related from now on is to digest it IN EVERY FORMAT POSSIBLE, please. So get to it, fans.

The Scope Gravity instant review will, from now on, carry a fire extinguisher at all times. You just never know…

Instant Movie Review: Don Jon

What do you get when you mix autumn movies, tons of porn and uncomfortable sex scenes, and crazy Jersey accents? You get Jared & Shane’s review of Don Jon, the latest entry in The Scope’s Fall Film Flam.

Yes, Joseph Gordon-Levitt wants to be a triple threat (he writes, directs, and stars in Don Jon) and he’s not afraid to tackle some, let’s say, difficult subject matter. But the true test will be if your Scope hosts totally dig what JGL, Scarlett Johansson, and Julianne Moore are doing in this wacky little picture. Oh, did anyone mention Tony Danza’s in it, too? Well, he is. That alone is something you don’t see everyday.

So why don’t you get to watching/listening/downloading the latest review already? Enlightenment and a lot of sexy talk is waiting.

The Scope Don Jon Instant Review isn’t slamming much of anything.

Instant Movie Review: Prisoners

We dip into The Scope reserve forces to enlist guest host Earl to help review the latest entry in the Fall Film Flam, Prisoners. This film has everything: Hugh Jackman sporting dad hair, Jake Gyllenhaal forgetting to do laundry, Melissa Leo brewing her own root beer, Terrence Howard never getting to wear the War Machine armor, Maria Bello taking a nap, and Paul Dano’s right eye. Is the whole better than the sum of these parts? Tune in to find out!

The Scope Prisoners review would never make an intern read pretentious remarks about our artistic intent before each episode.
