Episode 63: The Hype Machine Remix

The Scope plays a music trivia games based on Blender’s 1001 Downloads during which Shane just makes up answers and we all guess randomly — but at least Al is there to talk about Oasis. Jared makes too many drug references, Adam continues his exploration of the art world, and we create the game “Wrote It or Stole It” during the review.

Oh, and we can’t agree on a score for The Killers, so you get three. Deal with it.

that ‘joyride’ break sounds like 80s era bowie.

i didn’t like their earlier albums, but i am digging the tracks i’ve heard off this one. i think this is the first album you’ve reviewed that i like.

It’s time to give Tom Cruise a break, and bring back David Lee Roth!

TC is going to be interviewed by Matt Lauer next week on Today. Great, more insane Tom Cruise clips. 🙁

Tom has really tried to tone it down lately. I don’t know how much we’ll be able to squeeze from his Today show appearance…I miss the the super crazy Maverick.

I agree bring back David Lee Roth. We haven’t heard from him near enough lately. Glad to hear that the World Series of Pop Culture will make a return soon. Can’t wait to hear it. Keep up the great work.

So Al gets a team and he can’t be on my team? He totally would have gotten Husker Du.

Not that I have been asked…

You’ll be asked! No formal plans beyond, “We’re working it” have been made. Don’t worry…when The Scope World Series of Pop Culture makes a triumphant return, you’ll be involved.

Gary, I ASSumed that your new team would want redemption in the new tournament and that I would have to field a new team to get in. I would be happy to REALLY defend OUR title this time.

    p.s. I know I’m a d-bag when I use all CAPS for emphasis.

Al, I think Carrie and I definitely want you on our team. We missed you last season.

And as long as there’s no chicanery from the moderator it’s all good. 🙂

    Chicanery?!?!

Wow…you are still talkin’ about the fact that I didn’t give you a Prince question category because I knew you would get EVERY QUESTION correct? Just like I wouldn’t create a category of ’87 Minnesota Twins questions for Al. Just like I wouldn’t create a category about Flight of the Conchords for Molly. Just like I wouldn’t create a category of Bon Jovi questions for my wife (which I would most certainly be accused of favoritism if I were to give her those in an actual competition.)

See, unlike real trivia shows, I know the contestants pretty well. So making question sets that unfairly benefit anyone makes the contest not cool for everyone.

Luckily for me, there isn’t some sort of official committee that regulates Trivia Questions on a Made up Game Show on a Fake Podcast… or I’d definitely be stripped of all of my duties… 🙁

Rest assured, I will make sure the next World Series of Pop Culture will be chicanery-free and just as fair as it’s been in previous editions! Now I can’t wait to get started. Thanks, G! 😉

    Feel better, Shane?

Fantastic rant. You should be on a non-fake radio podcast.

I would love to be on the next world series of pop culture you can just put me on that odd ball team where there’s a bunch of people that don’t know each other and are forced to work together kind of the real world team of the scope.

I’ll be on the random team of people who don’t know each other too.

I used to babysit for a family who called their kid honeypot, so your female genitalia term really disturbed me this week.
